Nutrition Sense Counselling, Beorne |
Dietetics entrepreneurship had always been on my to-do list. At Nutrition Sense, I learned various counseling techniques which enhanced my counseling and interview skills. I realized that it is very important for a private practice dietitian to stay abreast of new scientific research. Overall it was a good learning experience and I learned the differences in outpatient and inpatient dietetics. I acknowledge the independence and flexibility of running a private business. I see myself running a dietetics business on a small scale in distant future. I also wish to incorporate cooking and fitness classes in my business.
Following are some of the highlights of my rotation at Nutrition Sense: · Assessed health history and assisted the dietitian in conducting MNT and counseling for patients with a variety of health and nutrition complications. · Performed routine assessments on Bio-electrical Impedance machine. · Familiarized with referral systems, fees and payment procedures and outpatient documentation utilizing MS One Note. · Explored insurance company protocols and procedures for reimbursements. · Familiarized with CKD clinic protocols and RD’s responsibilities in a consulting position. · Familiarized with LEAP therapy program and researched articles on food hypersensitivities. · Designed a menu for a food hypersensitivity patient. · Learned about environmental effects on children’s health by attending and volunteering at a symposium sponsored by Children's Environmental Health Institute(CEHI). Also prepared a handout and a presentation on environmental effects on the health of school children for SHAC, at Boerne Independent School District. · Attended a professional cooking class and incorporated nutritional concepts by presenting health and nutritional information of the recipes presented. · Prepared and organized monthly tweets for the Nutrition Sense business account. · Edited nutrition handouts for elementary, middle and high school children. Also designed and compiled a quarterly newsletter for Nutrition Sense.
